2026 [In Production] | Short documentary
Are we losing what it means to be human by embracing technology over genuine real-world connection?
Across social media, millions of young people are watching videos of (mainly) women whispering affirmations into tiny powerful microphones, running their fingers through bowls of beads, miming stroking their viewers’ hair, and some, slowly spitting onto their fingers and ‘painting’ it gently across the camera lens.
The Sound of Silence is a multimedia report exploring the growing popularity of ASMR and what it might reveal about young people’s emotional lives.
Through real examples of content and the voices of young viewers, it introduces a world that is hugely popular yet rarely discussed - where relaxation, intimacy and digital connection intersect.
Our teaser was featured in two Guardian articles examining the trend and the questions it raises about loneliness, comfort, and the role of digital media in young people’s lives.
The project is now being developed into a documentary, currently in production and seeking funding for release in 2026.
